Polynucleotides

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are injectable treatments used to address skin quality. The aim is to improve the appearance of texture, hydration and elasticity over time, rather than to add the facial volume associated with traditional fillers.

Why consider polynucleotides?

You may want to discuss skin that looks fine, crepey or less elastic, including the area around the eyes. Suitability depends on the product, treatment area and your skin. Clinical research is still developing, and the extent and duration of any improvement vary.

  • Discuss concerns about texture and hydration
  • Assess areas of fine or crepey-looking skin
  • Plan gradual changes to skin quality rather than facial volume

What to expect at your appointment

  1. We assess your skin, medical history and allergies, then explain the proposed product and treatment area.
  2. Appointments generally take around 30–45 minutes. Treatment involves small injections into the skin.
  3. A course is often proposed. The number of appointments, spacing and review plan are agreed for the product used and your individual needs.

Results and recovery

Any improvement develops gradually rather than immediately. Small raised bumps, redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising may be visible after the injections. Their duration varies, so allow for recovery and follow the aftercare advice provided.

Suitability and risks

Injectable treatments can cause bruising, swelling, infection or allergic reactions. Tell us about allergies and existing skin conditions. We will explain the specific product, its suitability, the limits of the available evidence and potential complications before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Are polynucleotides the same as dermal fillers?

The aim here is skin-quality improvement rather than adding volume or changing facial contours. Your practitioner will explain the product and whether it suits your concern.

How many appointments will I need?

This depends on the product and your treatment plan. Ask for the proposed course, spacing, total cost and review arrangements before starting.

Will the improvement be immediate?

No immediate result is promised. Changes may develop gradually over a course, and individual responses vary.
